Meet Cindy
Cindy is an accomplished musician, educator, and performer with over 20 years of experience in music education, vocal performance, and theater. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in voice and piano from North Carolina Central University. Cindy is also certified in the Somatic Voicework™ The Lovetri Method (Levels I, II, III), which integrates voice science, traditional training, and complementary disciplines to optimize vocal performance and vocal health.
As a dedicated music educator, Cindy has taught piano and voice at Cindy's Music School in Brooklyn, NY, Triangle Music School in Durham, NC and with the Jazz Power Initiative in NYC. She served as the choral director at New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC and served as the minister of music/choir director at several churches, fostering musical growth in students of all ages. Cindy’s expertise has also led her to teach master classes and workshops at venues such as Brooklyn Technical High School, Hilton Head Preparatory School, and internationally at the Radically Sacred Retreat in the Dominican Republic.
A versatile performer, Cindy has graced stages worldwide, including Birdland Jazz Club, DROM and The Triad Theater in New York City, Tralf Music Hall in Buffalo, and L’Ultimo Bacio in Switzerland. She has shared the stage with celebrated artists like NEA Jazz Master Delfeayo Marsalis and opened for Avery Sunshine. In theater, Cindy has performed notable roles such as Deena Jones in Dreamgirls and Sarah in Ragtime. She has also served as a musical and vocal director for community theater and school productions of Hairspray, In the Heights, and Grease.
Cindy's artistry extends beyond performance to songwriting and composition. In 2018, she released her debut EP, The Mask, a deeply personal project created in collaboration with Brit Award-winning producer Blair MacKichan and renowned vocal producer Alicia Olatuja.
On each of those stages, whether they were high pressure or low pressure opportunities, Cindy learned the same thing repeatedly. Nervous system regulation is what makes it possible to access performance skills when it matters. That's central to what she teaches now: not just technique, but how to actually trust it under pressure.
